Signal improvement
A semi-knowledgable friend took a look at our transmitter and made some suggestions.
- The cable from the compressor/limiter to the transmitter is not shielded. Replace with higher quality shielded cable of the correct length.
- Replace antenna with one that is not bent, and maybe has a balun.
- Keep working on new transmitter location, as discussed at the July 3, 2006 meeting.
Benefit
Pila is interested in doing a Hawaiian luau benefit, complete with pig in the ground (vegetarian options available). He thinks we need 6-8 weeks lead time to prepare and promote. Austin called Radio Ranch near Skateland, and they said they'd be willing to do it. The cost would be around $100. We have a lead on hog farmers. Six or eight weeks out is the first or second week of October. We should do it on a Saturday so people will drink liberally.
Press passes
We need to make press passes. We have a design almost complete.
Web stream
We should work towards a web stream. We need to get shoutcast or icecast running. Johann will work on this.
New programs
Today was the first episode of Kanuka Maoli, a Hawaiian sovereignty program. Pila will be hosting the hour long show every Monday from 5-6 p.m.
Jay wants to do a late night talk show. To start it will be twice a week, Weds and Fri at 11 p.m. We're still looking for title ideas, but to start we'll call it 'Round Midnight. We need a phone patch.
yohann and Greer want to do a music and talk show touching on astrology, zodiacs, Jungian archetypes, etc. They'd like to do it once a week at night, Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
Audio production workshop
It'd be nice to teach each other audio production. We have a production studio in the front that we can use.
New studio
Craig Lawrence, a MII board member is coming over tomorrow to look at turning the car port into a studio. He wants to make it a green building project if possible.
Aaron Dixon
Aaron Dixon, Green Party candidate for US Senate, will be touring the region in the fall.
Administration
KOWA-LP is growing and we'll need people to do various aspects of administration. Pila expressed interest in helping.
Ben is moving away soon. More than anything, he wants to stay involved via the internet. To this end he's pledged forty dollars for each set of minutes timely posted to the web site in the next year.
Graphic design
Alexis has been working on designs for KOWA shirts. Others should feel free to do the same.
