Purpose of this page

In order to facilitate a large group of people working on a project, we must define and make available the structure of our organization -- how people get involved, what groups have what level of authority, etc.

Mission

KOWA-LP's mission is to give voice to individuals, organizations and movements working for social justice, economic democracy, ecological sustainability and peace.

Ultimate authority

By law, Media Island International is the responsible party for the KOWA-LP license. Media Island International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation based in Olympia, Washington. The ultimate authority over KOWA-LP rests in the Media Island board.

KOWA-LP core group

The day-to-day decisions about KOWA-LP are made by core group of folks that show up to the Monday meetings.

Programming

All programming is juried by the core group, guided by our mission statement. We give priority to locally-produced content. We also recognize the importance of continuity and listener habits, meaning we strive to guide the listener along smoothly, flowing well between program tone and content.

Once a show is accepted, it must be scheduled. This is a seperate task, and should probably be handled by a scheduling working group with interest in the matter and knowledge of the KOWA-LP schedule. This does not imply an exclusive group, only that we should allow people the option of not having to do this potentially time-consuming work, which many will not want to do.
